By far my favorite island in the Seychelles. If we were not just stopping over, I would choose to spend at least a few days here.
La Digue, Seychelles, is a tropical paradise that captivates everyone that visits with its pristine white-sand beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and lush greenery. Known for its laid-back ambiance, La Digue offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The island is renowned for its iconic Anse Source d’Argent beach, with its unique granite boulders, swaying palm trees, and picturesque coves. Exploring the island by bicycle adds to the charm, while exploring and discovering hidden gems like Grand Anse and Petite Anse. With its idyllic scenery, breathtaking sunsets, and warm hospitality, La Digue promises an unforgettable tropical retreat.
When visiting La Digue, Seychelles it is all about the beaches. La Digue, is home to several stunning beaches, each offering its own unique beauty and allure. When arriving at the small little town it is easy to quickly rent a bike and be off on your way. The island is small enough to navigate the entire thing in one day, but take your time and really explore all this quaint little island has to offer.
Here are the four best beaches to visit and why they are worth exploring:
Anse Source d'Argent
Arguably the most famous beach on La Digue, Anse Source d'Argent is a paradise that has been consistently ranked among the world's best. This beach captivates visitors with its breathtaking beauty, characterized by soft white sand, striking granite boulders, and crystal-clear turquoise waters.
To get to this breathtaking shoreline, you'll need to pass through the enchanting L'Union Estate Farm, adding to the allure of the journey. As you make your way through the farm, you'll be greeted by picturesque scenery, including lush coconut groves and towering palm trees. The path to Anse Source d'Argent unveils itself, leading you to a mesmerizing stretch of powdery white sand, framed by striking granite boulders. The crystal-clear turquoise waters invite you to take a refreshing swim or simply soak up the sun in this pristine paradise.
For a bit of an adventure, consider biking over to the South eastern coast and then hike from Grand Anse to Anse Coco. Even though it is a bit of challenge to get here, you will not be disappointed.
Grand Anse
Located on the southeastern coast of La Dique, Grand Anse is a rugged and untamed beach known for its raw beauty. The long stretch of pristine white sand is juxtaposed against dramatic cliffs and fringed by lush vegetation. The crashing waves and strong currents make it less suitable for swimming, but it offers an awe-inspiring backdrop for beach walks and breathtaking views. It's an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts and photographers looking to experience the raw power of nature in a truly picturesque setting.
Anse Coco
For those seeking seclusion and a sense of untouched beauty, Anse Coco is a must-visit. Accessible via a scenic hiking trail, this remote beach offers a serene and unspoiled atmosphere. The hike to Anse Coco takes you through lush green forests and granite formations, two other fabulous beaches all while heightening the sense of adventure. Upon arrival, you'll be rewarded with a pristine beach framed by dramatic cliffs and fringed with swaying palm trees. The strong waves and wild beauty make it a great spot for beach combing, nature walks, or simply unwinding in a tranquil setting.
Anse La Reunion
Located on the island's northwestern coast, captivates with its serene ambiance and gentle waves. This picturesque beach offers a tranquil escape, ideal for sunbathing, strolling along the shoreline, or simply unwinding amidst the natural beauty.
These beaches exemplify the natural beauty and tranquility that make La Digue a dream destination.
We didn't stay on the island this trip. Instead we opted to visit all these wonderful islands on a shared catamaran where we rented a cabin through Dream Yacht Charters. While the boating to each island was unforgettable, I can't in good conscious recommend Dream Yacht Charters for this experience. It really was one of the worst sailing (and when I say sailing, I should say boating because the sail on our boat had been broken for years, apparently). Read more in the upcoming blog post for more on this.
While we didn't actually eat anywhere on the island, we did do a fair bit of drinking. "Coco Bar" on Anse Coco was so cute and a great place to have a cool refreshing drink. The mango special was fantastic.
